January has been rough for my feeders. It’s a bit of a mystery why the birds disappeared and why they havent really come back. There are the sporadic Blue Jays and Downy Woodpeckers, but where I had droves of up to 30 House Sparrows, I’m seeing maybe one or two a week. I got a really nice new woodpecker feeder as a christmas present, and while it has taken a bit for them to learn how to get the suet, it’s been really great to watch them. Here’s hoping February has more activity. (After some frigid cold temps I did get a sudden influx of birds to my feeder in late January. Finally !) In total I had 9 species: Blue Jay, House Sparrow, Downy Woodpecker, White-breasted Nuthatch, Black-capped Chickadee, Harris’s Sparrow, Red-breasted Nuthatch, House Finch, and Red-bellied woodpecker.
