Shortly after I first got my camera, I had spotted a Bald Eagle sitting in a tree in front of an acreage on the way to Worthington MN. We pulled the car over and I got to snapping. At the time I was just using a 300mm lens and still managed to get decently close up photos of it. I had to do a decent amount of editing to remove some tree branches and chromatic aberration, but I really do love this shot.

It was a decent amount of time before I saw any eagles again but this time, I did have my 600mm lens and while I couldn’t get quite as close, I got a beautiful photo. This juvenile sat here for a long while, and I love the brown plumage against the green leaves.

Bald Eagles seem to show up frequently at Lake Bella, and while beautiful on their own, they’re mostly juveniles and I find myself wanting the perfect photo of an adult.

My most recent photos in 2025, I have been seeing quite a few eagles in Wahpeton IA, in one of my favorite state parks. Again with mostly juveniles, I did finally catch a break and took one of my favorite and definitely one of my best photos so far in the early new year. The adult I managed to find was absolutely stunning and gave me the perfect shot.
