I did not go out today expecting to add a new bird to my list, let alone a new woodpecker, but I did! I added bird number 101 to my lifer list in the form of the Yellow-bellied Sap Sucker. It’s not the best photo, but as always I will strive to shoot something better in the future.
Today was really just a day for the wood peckers as I photographed two other species as well. My favorite little Downy, and a beautiful Northern Flicker. Hills Park was honestly just a goldmine for birds today.
A really beautiful Red-tailed Hawk was also hanging out in the woods today and graciously let me snap so many great photos. He was really posing for the camera I think. Hills Park was a really great place to bird and I can’t wait to go back there in other seasons to see what it has to offer.
