This is a new park my partner Josh and I haven’t been to yet. It didn’t really have much promise upon first glance but we got out and had a look around. Right away we did hear a TON of birds of so many different types. There were White-breasted Nuthatches everywhere around us and I got some really great close up shots of one. The sound they make sounds like they are laughing and I love it so much.

We walked around some more looking for trails and walked a little way to a beach on West Okoboji Lake and found a small flock of Canada Geese resting on the shore. There wasn’t really anywhere to go at that point so we snapped some pictures and went on in search of trails.

We walked through the park a bit and thought there might have been a trail but it was just a little loop around a large brush pile. This brush pile however was filled with birds and I got some great shots of White-throated Sparrows, and surprisingly Dark-eyed Juncos.

We kept on walking through the park still in hopes of finding a trail when we stumbled upon a beautiful herd of White-tailed Deer. One in particular seemed curious enough about me to hang around and I really enjoyed photographing him. After He fled we did finally find a trail through a nature reserve and it was full of so many birds, so many more deer and a few curious squirrels as well. I really liked walking through and I’m super excited to go back closer to winter time and photograph more deer.
