Lately the Northern Lights have been popping up more and more in my area. Typically when you think of the lights you imagine having to go to Alaska or Canada to see them. I’m no expert of the workings of space, but to my knowledge the lights have been popping up further south due to solar flare activity. So when I hear they are going to be visible, I get my camera ready!
The lights truly put on an amazing show. I have seen them in Iowa one other time before, but they were no where near are bright and beautiful, especially right above my house in town. Most often the lights aren’t visible to the naked eye, you need camera exposure to see them and it needs to be as dark as possible. Not this time though! It was truly such a sight to see, with shades of purple, pink, red, green and blue.
These two photos will be pictures I took of the lights back in May this year. They were mostly green and purple but not quite as vibrant. I have since also upgraded my camera equipment since these and that might be a factor is the differences as well.
